IN MEMORY OF OOKIE
OOKIE had a tumer.
Here is my story I had in the groups I belong too. I am so heart broken, as he was a true love. I got up this morning waiting to hear him soy goodmorning Nanna and how are you darlin,,,,,,,,,,, But all is quiet, Even my other two birds I think are grieving, It has been a very long day today.
Waking up to OOKIE passing away was so horrible. Not just for me but for my Granddaughter and also the family that knew him. I have received more support when my Bird died than I ever got when I lost a human. This goes to show us all how important our hearts are. How much we love each others pets and the sharing and understanding goes beyond people that dont have birds imagination. In fact until I joined all the groups I had no idea the type of support there is. Thank you to every one that has sent me there regards and cards.
OOKIE a DBL yellowhead amazon was rescued from a local store here in Louisiana he had been abused by them in every way possible. He had no feathers he had abrasions deep ones his water would get changed every couple of weeks, and I cant tell you if his dishes ever got cleaned, the place was gross and filthy. So after a long fight I was able to get OOKIE out of this store!
I took him to the vet the day I got him, and the vet was shocked that he was even alive. After months of working with him and giving him good food and lots of needed love, he got his feathers back and he was shiny and healthy and doing great, A year into this and he got sick two weeks ago everything had changes from his eating habits to not chewing any more or playing. I took him to the vet on Monday and he told me that he had a large tumer that could not be removed and it was just a matter of time, as long as he wasnt suffering I was willing to give him my all and not put him to sleep.
Last night he layed down a little and I covered him in my blanket, it was as though he was saying goodbye. He talked and asked whats up darlin? and i wuv nanna and a few short songs, but it was all he could to say goodnight. I put him to bed and woke up to him gone. I know that I have done so much for him, I studied this behavior on habitual mutilation and plucking and I believe I had him figured out. But every bird is different. I think if everyone could take the time to log a little each week about there habits and keep a journal just incase some other family gets him or her then you have something to go on.
People are so impulsive when it comes to the purchase of these beautiful birds and have no knowledge of how to take care of them. I know I was one of those people. Now I look back and I am ashamed that I was a impulsive lover and buyer of a bird. Now I know I have a lot of importnat information written down and wise to soo much of what I need to know if I am ever challenged again with another abused bird. For now, I have my B&G macaw and my Hyc macaw and a U2( which is a true challenge)
As far as the melagel and melaleuca goes I have to believe that once I had started to use it, His health was better and he had stopped plucking and mutilating his feathers. So for the ones that have questioned the treatment I feel totally positive that I got what I wanted from the treatment and OOKIE gave me unconditional Love and Undivided entertainment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
